AFNAN RASHID AL ZAYANI is Bahraini, married with four children. Afnan holds a Bachelor of Science in Food Technology from Texas Tech University – USA.·In 1977, she joined Bahrain Flour Mills Company as a quality control and research supervisor. In 1982, she moved to the private sector. Presently, she is the owner and president of Al Zayani Commercial Services S.P.C.·She is also a partner in Martinizing Laundry and, a board member of Al Ayam Publishing.

·Afnan is active in several business societies. From 2002-2004, she was the president of Bahrain Businesswomen’s Society. In 2006, she became a board member of Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry. From 2009- 2012, she was the first president of the MENA Businesswomen’s Network. · In 2013, Afnan was awarded the Medal of Efficiency by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain.

·In addition to being a businesswoman, Afnan Al Zayani has also published seven cookery books.

.In 1983, she published Al Soofrah Al Khaleejiah, the first cookery book published in Bahrain, followed by A Taste of the Arabian Gulf published in 1988, the first dedicated Gulf cookery book in English. Based on these two books,  in 1992, she received the Bahrain National achievement award in recognition of her efforts in preserving the heritage of the Arabian Gulf cuisine.

.In 1994, she published another cookbook, Ma Lath Wa Tab.

· In 2004, Afnan published Latha’ath Afnan, based on her TV cookery series, Latha’ath 1, 2,3,4 and 5.

· Afnaniyat is her fifth book, released in 2009 showcasing recipes from the Afnaniyat TV programme, in Arabic and English.

· In 2010 Afnan won the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards in Paris for her publication Afnaniyat, for Best Arabic Cookbook of 2009.

. In 2014 Afnan published her sixth cookery book “Aeesh Wa Malh” The book is made up of 75 Savory recipes in both Arabic and English.

. Her seventh and latest publication is “Ya Halawa”. The cookbook is made up of 77 dessert recipes in both Arabic and English.

She launched her cookery programmes from Bahrain TV in 1986 with Al Soofrah Al Khaleejiah, followed by many programmes, one of which was Gulf Delights in English. In 2007, she presented Ramadan Attyab on MBC TV. Afnan has also presented three programmes on Qatar TV the latest was Afnaniyat in 2008. In 2012, she presented “Let’s Cook W ith Afnan” on Bahrain TV.
